Join the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum and the History Center’s Italian American Program for the Pittsburgh premiere of “Bruno Sammartino,” a documentary on the legendary Pittsburgh-raised Italian wrestler, at the History Center on Thursday, Oct. 6.
As told through the experiences of the world champion himself and those closest to him, “Bruno Sammartino” exemplifies the remarkable life journey of a humble Italian immigrant who became one of the most world-renown wrestlers to step into the ring.
Bruno’s story is one of improbable rise, about a man who held honor above fame and dignity above fortune. After fleeing the Nazis with his family as a young boy, Bruno arrived in Pittsburgh and started a new life. He went on to become one of the best professional wrestlers of his time, selling out Madison Square Garden a staggering 189 times. Hollywood celebrities courted him, Italian Americans adored him, and Arnold Schwarzenegger called him “The Star of All Stars.”
Narrated by Larry Richert, “Bruno Sammartino” features interviews with the champion, family members, and close friends, including emotional comments from Arnold Schwarzenegger, who inducted Bruno into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.
